Candle Care & Safety

Our candles are hand-poured in New Hampshire with soy wax and a cotton-paper wick, and each 9 oz jar burns for about 40 to 50 hours. The names are jokes; fire is not. A few rules for keeping the trouble strictly aromatic:

Before every burn

  • Trim the wick to 1/4″ (6 mm) before lighting, every time.
  • Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, curtains, bedding, paper, and anything else that would rather not catch fire.
  • Remove the lid and any packaging before lighting.

While it burns

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended. Not even for a “quick minute.”
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Burn no longer than 3 hours at a time.
  • On the first burn, let the wax pool reach the edge of the jar (about 2 hours) to prevent tunneling.

Ending the evening

  • Extinguish with a snuffer or by gently placing the lid on top. Blowing sends hot wax places it should not go.
  • Make sure the wick is fully out before leaving the room or going to sleep.
  • Stop burning when 1/2″ (12 mm) of wax remains at the bottom. Retire the jar; it makes an excellent home for small trouble like matches or jewelry.

Burn responsibly. Decisions are yours alone.
